Credit Human to Celebrate Grand Opening on Elysian Fields

NEW ORLEANS (press release) — Credit Human will celebrate the grand opening of its new financial health center from 11:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 6 at 1040 Elysian Fields Avenue.

The federal credit union partnered with DJ Johnson, owner of Baldwin & Company, to produce the Money Smart Block Party, which will feature free financial resources, free food and live music. Podcaster Jamila Souffrant and financial advisor Jarrett E. Cohen will co-host a panel.

The Financial Health Center opened under the credit union’s mission of reducing financial stress to improve people’s lives. Johnson, who purchased the historic building in 2019, partnered with Credit Human based on his desire to expand financial literacy in the area and address the economic disparities affecting the people of New Orleans.

Credit Human, a financial institution that has been open since 1935, expanded to New Orleans to fill those gaps.

“We want the community to know that there’s a place and people that truly care about their financial health,” said Steve Hennigan, CEO of Credit Human. “Reducing financial stress is a key component of improving an individual’s life; that’s why we make the time to meet our members where they are and provide them with tools and knowledge so they have more control of their path.”

“This partnership intends to open the doors of opportunity to the community through reading programs for kids, financial literacy classes, and access to capital to families in need of a helping hand and to young entrepreneurs who have minimal options to access capital to finance their dreams,” said Johnson. “With Credit Human, we are supporting entrepreneurs by providing funding opportunities and assistance in developing business plans, opportunities that are scarce in New Orleans as the gaps left by larger banks are expanding, especially in communities with limited access to financial services.”
