NEW IBERIA, LA (AP) — The Port of Iberia has hired former state senator and Iberia Parish president Craig Romero as its new executive director.
The Daily Iberian’s Horace Holloman III reports that Romero’s three-year, $115,000 contract will begin Nov. 17.
Former Executive Director Roy Pontiff retired in August after 17 years.
The board voted 7-0 at a special meeting Friday to hire Romero.
Romero agreed to step down from Frank's International NV, an oil services company where he has worked for 20 years. He also must stop looking for new insurance contracts, though he may continue to get income from policies he already has written.
