COVINGTON, LA – Covington City Councilman Rick Smith was sworn-in as treasurer of the St. Tammany Municipal Association on Wednesday, Jan. 18, replacing Councilman Lee Alexius, who passed away in December.
"It's humbling to win the trust and support of fellow elected officials in St. Tammany's municipalities, and it's a true honor to succeed Lee," Smith said. "Lee Alexius was a great councilman, a great STMA officer, and a great friend."
The Municipal Association's members include all eight cities, towns and villages in St. Tammany, and works to solve common problems while advocating for laws at the Parish and State levels that benefit municipalities and their citizens.
Smith will complete the remainder of the term, which expires next January. He is in his second term representing District E on the Covington City Council, and will be a candidate for mayor in 2019.
