Covington City Councilman Wright Calls For ‘Drainage Summit’

COVINGTON, LA – Covington City Councilman Mark Wright has called for a "Drainage Summit," incorporating input from city, parish and state officials.

"After meeting with commissioners from Gravity Drainage District No. 5, the City administration, local residents and developers, it is apparent that we need a consensus and coordinated approach to drainage in the Covington area," Wright said. "As Councilman from one of the most affected areas, I'm asking my colleagues to join me in calling for a joint meeting to begin developing a comprehensive approach to this dangerous and costly issue."

Wright's plan is to call a meeting for July and consider the creation of an ad hoc body to study various approaches to drainage issues already in progress and develop plans for better coordination of those efforts.

"Rampant flooding in our area earlier this year only underscored the problem of inadequate drainage and poor coordination between the various entities in place to address the issue," Wright said.  "I hope my colleagues on the Council will join in support of this effort to bring a broad base of knowledge and concern to the forefront."
