Construction Done On Veterans Hospital Outpatient Building

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Southeast Louisiana Veterans Health Care System says construction is completed on the outpatient building at its new medical center in New Orleans.

A news release says the 1.6 million-square-foot complex is on schedule to start phasing in operations at the new location in December.

The news release says ambulatory and day procedures will begin in 2017, with complex surgery to start later that year.

The system says it's beginning with patients from 23 southeastern parishes. Once the hospital is fully open, veterans from the Texas-Louisiana state line to the Florida panhandle will get inpatient care in New Orleans.

Officials say the outpatient building was turned over to the VA on Friday.
