NEW ORLEANS – Economic Development group Greater New Orleans Inc. announced that “Computer Science Online” magazine has named Louisiana No. 1 in the country in the category of “Best Opportunities for Software Engineers.” The state’s demand for software engineers is expected to grow by 80 percent by 2022. Louisiana is followed by Colorado, Utah, Virginia, Montana and Washington, DC. Software developers have a background in programming skills and languages such as C#, Microsoft .NET and SQL. Responsibilities may include coding and debugging programs, conducting quality assurance tests and analyzing business requirements for software.
London-based Testronic is the latest software company to join the burgeoning GNO tech scene. The company is currently hiring quality assurance personnel to staff its new 150-person game testing facility in New Orleans. In addition, according to updated data from labor market analytics company Emsi, in 2019 Greater New Orleans is ranked No. 3 for women and No. 5 for African Americans holding tech jobs (top 50 largest metropolitan statistical areas), on a percentage basis.
