Company Donates More Than 70 Acres Of Marshland To State

GULFPORT, MS (AP) — More than 70 acres of marshland have been donated to the state to be used for conservation and recreation.

Secretary of State Delbert Hosemann announced Thursday that Mississippi received 72.6 acres of marshland in Harrison County from The Chemours Co. DeLisle site in Pass Christian.

According to multiple media reports, the land is at the junction of the Wolf River and Bay of St. Louis and adjoins the state-owned 2,426-acre Wolf River Marsh Coastal Preserve, which contains an expansive tidal freshwater marsh.

"This land donation represents a key acquisition for our coastal preserves program and one that will benefit our coastal environment for decades," said Jamie Miller, Executive Director of the Department of Marine Resources.

The Chemours Co. DeLisle plant was formerly known as DuPont Delisle.

Chemours plant manager Mark Smith said the company has worked closely with several state agencies since it opened in 1979 to help preserve natural resources.
