NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans officials have chosen a technology vendor to administer the city's new program to deal with false crime alarms.
The city says a selection committee chose the Public Safety Corporation and its "CryWolf" system to manage the program aimed at reducing the amount of time police spend responding to false alarms. The CryWolf website says the system is used to track false alarms and collect fines.
The City Council approved an ordinance in June to create the policy, which sets a progressive system of fines when false alarms are triggered. A city news release says that the city will now enter negotiations with Public Safety Corporation for a contract to administer the program. Officials expect to have the program in place by the end of the year.
