BATON ROUGE (AP) — The commercial king mackerel season in Louisiana waters will close on Thursday at noon.
Louisiana's Department of Wildlife and Fisheries made the announcement in a Monday news release.
The release said the decision was based on data gathered by the department's biologists and the National Marine Fisheries Service. The information collected indicates that the annual quota for king mackerel of 1.07 million pounds for the western zone of the Gulf of Mexico would soon be met.
In federal waters, the commercial fishing season for king mackerel was closed on Tuesday Nov. 17.
The quota for king mackerel is set each year by NMFS based on recommendations by the Gulf and South Atlantic Fishery Management Councils.
