NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Comcast has announced that it will begin offering gigabit internet services to some customers in Louisiana later this month.
NOLA.com/The Times-Picayune reports the service will available for residential and business customers in LaPlace, Houma, Monroe and Shreveport. Company spokesman Alex Horwitz says the "ultra-fast" service will be delivered over the company's existing network and won't require any construction.
Comcast's announcement Monday says the service will require participants to upgrade to a modem capable of handling the increased speed. It says the service will enable customers to download a 5-gigabyte high-definition movie in about 40 seconds. Residential customers can get the service without a contract for about $140 per month. Business customers will be able to choose between two tiers.
