College Breaks Ground On New Maritime Safety Training Center

MORGAN CITY, LA (AP) — South Central Louisiana Technical College has broken ground on a new maritime safety training center that is expected to partner with a similar facility in Houma once it is built.

Officials from the college, with campuses in Morgan City, Reserve and Thibodaux, joined the Louisiana Community and Technical College System board and state and local officials Wednesday to celebrate the opening of the Hugh & Byrnes Young Marine & Petroleum Safety Training Center.

The Daily Comet’s Jacob Batte reports South Central will build the $3.7 million building using state and private money.
