NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans announced that The Network for Economic Opportunity will host two community meetings to solicit input for updates to the City’s Master Plan for residents and community groups that live, work or worship in the Claiborne Corridor. The communities located in this area lie along Claiborne Avenue from Napoleon Avenue to Elysian Fields Avenue, and between Broad Street on the lake side and Oretha Castle Haley Boulevard, Rampart Street and St. Claude Avenue on the river side.
The Plan for the 21st Century, commonly referred to as the City’s Master Plan, is a City Charter-mandated planning framework for the core systems that shape New Orleans’ physical, social, environmental and economic future. This Master Plan reflects the values and priorities that emerged through a community participation process and is grounded in information assembled for the first time in one place. In 2010, the Plan was unanimously adopted by both the City Planning Commission and the City Council and was signed by Mayor Mitchell Landrieu.
The previous version of the Master Plan was created with recovery from Hurricane Katrina in mind. At this time, the City is beginning the process to update this Master Plan by allowing residents to evaluate and make suggestions that will shape the City into the future.
For residents in the Uptown area of the Claiborne Corridor, the City will host a meeting this Saturday, June 18, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at the Dryades Market, 1307 O.C. Haley Blvd. Orientation for the this meeting will be held on Friday, June 17, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
For residents in the Downtown area of the Claiborne Corridor, the City will host a meeting for the next Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 9:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. at Corpus Christi-Epiphany Community Resource Center, 2022 St. Bernard Ave. Orientation for the this meeting will be held on Friday, June 24, 2016, from 5:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.
