ABOUT
Over twelve years ago, City Year, Inc., a national nonprofit, developed a research-based approach to support student life and school success. Grounded in a belief that the best opportunities for children are rooted in school and a healthy home life, City Year dedicated itself to holistically serving those needs. Caring adults, coupled with a nurturing school environment, value children’s needs and address them to help create the optimal environment for success.
EVENTS
School House Rock, City Year’s annual fundraising gala functions as an important source of private funding. The gala celebrates Corps members and their accomplishments alongside past, current and future donors.
DONATIONS
Donations and philanthropy together are the lifeblood of City Year. More than a third of their annual budget is drawn from private revenue; their staff is comprised of dedicated AmeriCorps volunteers. Their 47 volunteers work in six partner schools, performing over 1,700 hours of service over ten months for five days a week—often averaging ten-hour days of service. Their service would be impossible without donations of both time and money.
MISSION
City Year partners with high-needs schools to bridge the gap between what students need and what schools are designed to provide. Through a year of service, City Year New Orleans supports students in reaching their potential while providing a transformational experience for AmeriCorps members. City Year focuses on supporting the development, growth and success of students in New Orleans most under-resourced schools, while preparing our AmeriCorps members to be leaders in their communities and careers.
