NEW ORLEANS – Today, the New Orleans Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness will join Evacuteer.org, the New Orleans International Airport and other partners for the annual City-Assisted Evacuation hurricane exercise at Evacuspot, at the Allie Mae Williams Multi Service Complex, 2222 Simon Bolivar Ave., at 8:15 a.m.
City-Assisted Evacuation provides transportation to approximately 30,000 people in Orleans Parish who cannot leave the city on their own during a mandatory evacuation for an emergency such as a hurricane. Next Wednesday, June 1, is the official start of the 2016 Atlantic hurricane season.
Representatives from various City agencies and volunteers will practice the steps required to safely evacuate residents before a hurricane, including pick-up and registration at one of 17 Evacuspots and transportation to the Union Passenger Terminal bus station or the New Orleans International Airport.
