NEW ORLEANS – Today, the New Orleans Health Department will join local and federal health care officials to announce the Citywide Day of Enrollment to educate and enroll as many individuals as possible in the Affordable Care Act Health Insurance Marketplace (the Marketplace) before the 2016 deadline.
Scheduled to attend today’s 10:00 a.m. announcement event at The Daughters of Charity Health Center Carrollton, 3201 S. Carrollton Ave., are Kevin Counihan, CEO of the Health Insurance Marketplace, U.S. Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, Charlotte Parent, New Orleans Health Department Director, Brian Burton, Director of Navigators for a Healthy Louisiana, which oversees Affordable Care Act enrollment efforts across the state, Susan Todd, Director of 504 Healthnet, a collaboration of 22 nonprofit and governmental organizations that form New Orleans’ health safety net and Mike Griffin, President and CEO of Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans.
On Saturday, Jan. 16, 2016, residents will have the opportunity to attend enrollment events at convenient sites throughout the city and get help from trained Marketplace enrollment assisters to shop around for the best healthcare plan to meet their needs.
In December, Mayor Mitch Landrieu announced that the City of New Orleans accepted the White House’s Healthy Communities Challenge as part of a national effort to promote enrollment in insurance through the Marketplace. Throughout the rest of the Marketplace open enrollment period, which ends on Jan. 31, 2016, the City Health Department along with its local, state and federal partners will continue to actively engage uninsured New Orleans residents to use the Marketplace to directly compare and purchase private health insurance options, often for lower costs.
