NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans Health Department and community health partners will kick off the open enrollment period for the Affordable Care Act’s Health Insurance Marketplace Friday, Nov. 14, at the Daughters of Charity Health Center, 3201 S. Carrollton Ave., 3rd Floor Community Room at 2:00 p.m.
Organizers say the Affordable Care Act created the Marketplace to allow citizens to choose from private health pl ans at lower costs. The Marketplace allows individuals and small employers to directly compare and purchase private health insurance options, often for lower costs. The Marketplace is open to U.S. citizens and documented residents who are not eligible for other coverage such as Medicaid, Medicare, Tricare or employer-sponsored coverage. Last year, more than 14,000 New Orleans residents enrolled in health insurance through the Marketplace.
New Orleans Health Department Director Charlotte Parent, Susan Todd, Executive Director of 504HealthNet, Mike Griffin, President and CEO of Daughters of Charity Services of New Orleans and Carolina Hernandez, Puentes New Orleans are all scheduled to attend the event.
