NEW ORLEANS – On Thursday, February 11, 2016, at 9:00 a.m., the City of New Orleans’ construction contractor, Barriere Construction, will re-route two-way traffic on St. Bernard Avenue between Filmore Avenue and Robert E. Lee Boulevard in the Filmore neighborhood. The traffic shift is necessary for construction crews to complete excavation work on St. Bernard Avenue. Public safety is the top priority, and residents should use caution when driving, bicycling and walking near the site.
The north and south bound travel lanes on St. Bernard Avenue between Filmore Avenue and Robert E. Lee Boulevard will shift to the east side of the existing neutral ground in order for the City to fully reconstruct this portion. One travel lane, in each direction, will be maintained throughout the duration of construction.
The St. Bernard Avenue reconstruction project includes removing and replacing existing sewer, water and drainage lines, replacing sidewalks and driveway aprons, installing American with Disabilities Act-compliant curb ramps at intersections and repaving the roadway in concrete and landscaping. The project is approximately 50 percent complete and on schedule to be completed in the summer of 2016.
Construction crews will be working from 7:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday; however, work on Saturdays may occur, when necessary.
