City Issues Traffic Advisory For Canal Street

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for Canal Street. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead before driving downtown and to avoid the intersection of Canal St. and Convention Center Blvd. if at all possible.

         Beginning Friday, May 13, 2016, until further notice, vehicles traveling on Convention Center Blvd. toward Canal St. must turn left onto Badine St. Vehicles on Badine St. must turn onto Convention Cent. Blvd. headed Uptown.

         Canal Street riverbound has been reduced to one lane. Vehicles must turn right at Convention Center Blvd.

         Vehicles traveling to Canal St. from Poydras St. are encouraged to turn left at South Peters St. to reach Canal St. Traffic traveling riverbound on Poydras St. will be restricted to one lane of travel at Convention Center Blvd.

         On Monday, May 16, the City will begin a drainage point repair in the right lane of Poydras St. at Convention Blvd. This work will take 7-10 days to complete and is unrelated to the repairs to the Canal Street tunnel and roadway.
