NEW ORLEANS –Today, the City of New Orleans issued a traffic advisory for the area around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome. Starting on Friday, July 24, 2015, at 7:00 a.m., residents should expect heavy traffic around the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in both the river-bound and lake-bound lanes of Poydras Street from Loyola Ave. to Claiborne Ave. as residents and visitors participate in worship services for the 2015 Regional Convention of Jehovah’s Witnesses. There will be a heavy presence of pedestrians, taxicabs and coach busses in the area throughout the weekend.
The New Orleans Police Department will have officers assisting with traffic flow in the area during peak travel times, and the public is encouraged to be patient and prepared for this heavy traffic, and to make transportation arrangements accordingly.
Parking enforcement personnel will be monitoring for illegal parking, including blocking hydrants, driveways and sidewalks, or parking within 20 feet of a crosswalk, intersection or stop signs. Motorists are also reminded to park in the direction of travel on one-way streets, and with the right wheel to the curb on two-way streets.
In addition, RTA services, including bus service, may be interrupted during this event.
