City Installing New Parking Meters Downtown

New, improved solar-powered parking meters are being installed in downtown New Orleans. Rollout of the new meters is phased with the transition occurring first in the Central Business District and then the French Quarter. All existing meters will be replaced citywide by the end of 2014.

According to a City of New Orleans press release, the new parking meters include video touchscreens with user instructions available in English and Spanish. A Vietnamese language option will be available in coming weeks.

In addition to installing new parking meters, the City is transitioning to a new pay-by-phone provider. Beginning Friday, October 3, through Monday, October 6, pay-by-phone meter payments will not be available. The City’s new pay-by-phone provider will begin accepting payments on Tuesday, October 7. To register with the new pay-by-phone service provider, visit www.parkmobile.com.

The meter update does not affect the current meter rates or hours of operation. Current parking meter hours of operation are Monday through Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. The new meters accept coins, currency, debit and credit card payments.
