City Congratulates Local Arts Organizations On Receiving $230K In Grant Awards

NEW ORLEANS – The City of New Orleans congratulates seven local arts organizations on receiving a total of $230,000 in grant awards from the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA).

         The funding will support various art and cultural projects for organizations across the city in the fields of arts education, dance, folk art, literature and more.

         “I commend these seven organizations for such an outstanding achievement,” said Mayor Mitch Landrieu. “The projects selected for the NEA awards are all perfect illustrations of the strength of our cultural economy, and this funding will ensure that our rich and diverse culture continues to thrive.”

         The NEA grant award will fund the following projects, which are designed to either promote the creation of art, public engagement with art, lifelong learning in the arts or the strengthening of communities through the arts:

Awarded $50,000 to support a tuition-free youth and senior citizen dance education program.

 

• Goat in the Road Productions (aka Goat in the Road)

Awarded $10,000 to support Play/Write, a playwrighting program.

 

• National Performance Network, Inc. (aka NPN)

Awarded $50,000 to support services and an annual meeting for performing artists and presenters.

 

• New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation, Inc. (aka New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Foundation)

Awarded $20,000 to support the Crescent City Blues and BBQ Festival.

 

• New Orleans Museum of Art (aka NOMA)

Awarded $25,000 to support the exhibition "Louisiana Landscapes in the Wider World," with accompanying catalogue.

 

• Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival, Inc.

Awarded $10,000 to support literary programming at the annual Tennessee Williams/New Orleans Literary Festival and the annual LGBT Saints and Sinners Literary Festival.

 

• Tulane University (aka Administrators of the Tulane Educational Fund)

Awarded $65,000 to support production and broadcast costs for "American Routes," a public radio program.

 

         Each year, the City publishes a Cultural Economy Snapshot in an effort to provide a comprehensive annual review of New Orleans’ cultural economy by documenting the real contributions of the creative community to the city’s economy as well as outlining valuable information needed to get funding, create programming or start a business.
