CITGO Commemorates 10th Anniversary Of Hurricane Rita With ‘In The Eye Of The Forgotten Storm’

SULPHUR, LA – CITGO Petroleum Corporation hosted elected officials, community leaders and media at the CITGO Lake Charles Refinery, on Thursday, September 24, 2015, to mark the release of the new book and documentary on Southwest Louisiana’s response to Hurricane Rita, “In the Eye of the Forgotten Storm.” 

         In September 2005, Hurricane Rita caused devastation throughout Southwest Louisiana. Featuring interviews with current and retired CITGO employees who experienced Hurricane Rita firsthand, “In the Eye of the Forgotten Storm” offers a detailed look at the efforts of CITGO Lake Charles and the entire Southwest Louisiana community to help their friends and neighbors in the aftermath of the brutal storm.

         At the book release event, CITGO Lake Charles was honored with a proclamation from the Office of Governor Bobby Jindal, recognizing the refinery for its commitment to Southwest Louisiana and to the Gulf Coast following Hurricane Rita. Additionally, while he was unable to attend the event, U.S. Representative Charles Boustany offered a video statement that was played at the event.
