NEW ORLEANS – This month, Children’s Hospital New Orleans celebrated the opening of its new Neurosciences Clinic, serving patients and families from across Louisiana in a space exclusively dedicated to kids with a wide range of pediatric neurological diseases or disorders. Details were shared in a press release.
“Being Extraordinary Together is exemplified by our investments in infrastructure and technology along with the unmatched expertise of our pediatric trained neurologists and neurosurgeons that is unique and impactful for the state of Louisiana,” said John R. Nickens IV, president and chief executive officer at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “Our neuroscience specialists focus exclusively on children with experts for all matters related to the brain, now housed in a state-of-the-art clinical environment.”
Children’s Hospital New Orleans offers comprehensive neurologic care for all kids and only kids, encompassing eight pediatric-trained neurologists and two pediatric trained neurosurgeons, along with specialized pediatric providers in physical and rehabilitative medicine, neuropsychology, and multiple other specialists, working collectively to care for patients.
“The new clinic allows the neuroscience specialties to work and interact in a collaborative environment and elevate the quality of care,” says Dr. Ann Tilton, pediatric neurologist and neurology service line chief at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “With six clinic rooms, four dedicated electroencephalogram (EEG)/sleep study rooms, and three procedure-based rooms, the new clinic further advances the skilled neurologic care provided exclusively to children.”
Children’s Hospital has invested in programs that innovate pediatric neuroscience care for the state of Louisiana. Children’s offers specialty clinics to rapidly diagnose patients with seizures, and was the first in Louisiana to welcome the ROSA robotic device to its neurosurgery department, providing minimally invasive stereotactic intracranial EEG monitoring for epilepsy surgery, delivering life changing results for patients like Hunter Langley.
The neurosciences clinic also provides multidisciplinary care for patients with cerebral palsy, peripheral nerve and muscle diseases, and intensive rehabilitation for patients with brain and spinal cord injuries. In addition, Children’s is the only center in the state to provide comprehensive headache management by two board-certified headache neurologists.
“The expansion of pediatric neurosciences at Children’s Hospital New Orleans is vital to the children of our community, state, and region,” said Matt Schaefer, senior vice president and chief operating officer at Children’s Hospital New Orleans. “When it comes to neurologic care, patients and families should seek the absolute best prepared pediatric specialists, along with supporting subspecialties and the latest technological advancements.”
