NEW ORLEANS – Children’s Hospital cardiothoracic surgeon Dr. Joseph Caspi was one of four locals honored Friday, October 7, 2016, at the 3rd Annual Children's Hero Awards. The Children's Bureau of New Orleans honors individuals who have shown an exemplary commitment to improving the quality of life for children in Greater New Orleans.
Paulette Carter, CEO of Children’s Bureau of New Orleans said that the award is to “honor citizens that have done remarkable things for children and have been proactive in making the community a better place for us all. Dr. Caspi is definitely deserving of this honor.”
Caspi is director of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at Children’s Hospital. He is also Professor of Surgery, Section of Pediatric Cardiothoracic Surgery at LSU Health New Orleans.
The 2016 Children’s Bureau Heroes are:
• Dr. Joseph Caspi, Children's Hospital
• Mary Landrieu, Former Louisiana State Senator
• Allen Toussaint (posthumously), Musician and Songwriter
• Dr. Beverly Wright, Deep South Center for Environmental Justice
