Chicago Investor Malkin Joins Board Of Tulane

NEW ORLEANS – Tulane University alumnus and Chicago investor Barry Alan Malkin is joining the Board of Tulane, the university’s main governing body, Tulane’s Carolyn Scofield reports.

         Malkin is co-founder and senior managing partner of GEM Realty Capital, Inc., a real estate investment company that invests in private-market real estate assets and publicly traded real estate securities.

         Malkin earned a BA from Tulane in 1984, majoring in sociology. As a student, he was a member of Zeta Beta Tau fraternity and the Direction Speaker Series. He also participated in a Junior Year Abroad Program in London. Malkin earned an MBA from Northwestern University Kellogg School of Management in 1988.

         He is a member of the Tulane President’s Council and the Hillel Board of Directors. He is a past member of the Provost’s Council and served on his 30-Year Reunion committee.

         Prior to founding GEM in 1994, Malkin was a vice president at JMB Realty Corporation, co-founded in 1968 by his father, Judd Malkin. At JMB, Malkin was involved with projects including the initial public offering of Urban Shopping Centers, Inc. and the sale of JMB’s institutional advisory business. Malkin was a vice president at JMB international in London for two years in the restructuring group. Prior to this, Malkin worked in the corporate finance department of Kidder Peabody as an analyst specializing in real estate finance.

         Malkin has also served as an officer of The Holocaust Educational Foundation based in Skokie, Illinois and on the boards of the Jewish United Fund, the Jewish Federation of Metropolitan Chicago and the Bernard Zell Anshe Emet Day School.
