CHI To Close Air Transport Operations At Galliano

GALLIANO, LA (AP) — Michigan-based CHI Aviation will close its base of operations in Louisiana, ending its air transport service for oil and gas workers to rigs and platforms in the Gulf of Mexico.

The Advertiser’s Ken Stickney reports the company told the Louisiana Workforce Commission in a Worker Adjustment report 74 employees, including pilots, mechanics and support staff assigned to south Lafourche Parish operations in Galliano, will lose their jobs by Dec. 8.

In an Oct. 8 letter to the state, Mary E. Comazzi, general counsel for CHI Aviation, cited changing business circumstances in the Gulf as the reason for the closure. She said affected employees were being notified as soon as possible.
