SLIDELL, LA – Chef Kevin Belton surprised hundreds of students this morning, creating a special day of learning with Louisiana history teacher Jamy Wood of Boyet Junior High School, 59295 Rebel Dr., in Slidell, Louisiana.
Chef Belton is the host of the WYES-TV series “New Orleans Cooking with Kevin Belton,” which is broadcast on PBS stations nationwide; weekly host of WWL-TV cooking segments; author of "Kevin Belton’s Big Flavors of New Orleans"; and instructor at New Orleans School of Cooking. This spring, chef was asked to judge the nationwide “Create-TV Cooking Challenge.”
This morning, Boyet Junior High’s Principal John Priola introduced surprise guest chef Belton, who talked to two groups of students about the history of Louisiana rice and introduced Episode 103 of his WYES-TV/PBS series “New Orleans Cooking with Kevin Belton,” which features rice dishes.
Q&A sessions followed each TV show airing.
