CEO Of State-Owned Hospitals Steps Down Without Explanation

MONROE, LA (AP) — The head of the private management company running the state-owned hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe has resigned.

Rodney Heubbers, the CEO of the University Health System, announced Friday he will step down from his position, effective immediately. The News-Star reports that no details were released for his resignation.

Richard Cascio, a partner at consulting firm Alvarez and Marsal, will serve as interim CEO until a new leader is found. Cascio led the transition from state to private management.

Board Chairman Steve Skrivanos says the transition won't impact facility operations.

The Biomedical Research Foundation of Northwest Louisiana, which runs the hospitals as University Health System, took control of the two LSU hospitals in October 2013, as part of Gov. Bobby Jindal's push to privatize most of Louisiana's public hospital system.
