CBD In The Dark After Vandals Damage, Steal Entergy Equipment

NEW ORLEANS – Entergy announced an intentional power outage for all of the Central Business District (CBD) today from 11:30 a.m. until approximately 1:00 p.m.

         Utility reps said vandals entered an Entergy substation overnight that serves the downtown New Orleans area damaging and stealing equipment necessary for its safe operation.

         Entergy crews caused an intentional power interruption at 11:30 a.m. to start making repairs. Reps estimated all work would be completed by 1:00 p.m. and said all customers were notified.

         The City of New Orleans worked with Entergy to ensure public safety during this outage, reps said.

         Traffic signals may have been impacted by the outage and residents were reminded to treat offline traffic lights as four-ways stops. Public safety personnel was present in high-traffic areas and assisted with directing traffic.

         Residents were also advised to avoid driving in the CBD, if possible, during the outage period.

         Entergy reps said all healthcare facilities in the affected area were advised of the outage and residents were advised to avoid using elevators leading up to and throughout the outage.
