NEW ORLEANS (AP) — Spokesman Steven Thorpe says Capital One Bank is closing five southeast Louisiana branches.
New Orleans CityBusiness’ Lance Traweek reports they're the Columbia Street drive-up in Bogalusa, the Driftwood branch in Kenner, the Courthouse branch in Chalmette, and branches in Madisonville and Pearl River.
As more banking goes online, banks nationwide are consolidating and merging to cut costs.
The Capital One branches will close by mid-October, leaving 45 in the region. Thorpe says associates were notified in June to let them apply for other jobs within Capital One or outside the bank.
Customers' accounts will be transferred to the nearest Capital One branch. For Pearl River customers, that's on Gause Boulevard in Slidell.
According to the Federal Deposit Insurance Corp., the only other bank in Pearl River is First NBC.
