Capital One Bank Awards Local Business Owners Opportunity To Participate In National Fried Chicken Festival

NEW ORLEANS – As the official bank sponsor of the National Fried Chicken Festival presented by Raising Cane's (FCF), Capital One Bank is utilizing the partnership to provide a platform and economic springboard for two recent graduates of Capital One-sponsored small business development programs.

         Capital One Bank awarded the use of its vendor booth at the festival to New Orleans-area chefs Jeffery M. Heard, Sr., and Karen Case after they finished first and second, respectively, in a special cook-off competition for recent graduates of the Capital One Bank Getting Down to Business program and the Capital One-supported Catapult Fund. As a result, Heard and Case will be among the 35 food vendors at the festival.

         Chef Heard is the owner of Heard Dat Kitchen and a graduate of Capital One's Getting Down to Business program. Created in 2011, Getting Down to Business is a free, multi-course program offered over several weeks to provide qualified business owners with information and guidance to help them grow their businesses.

         Chef Case is the owner of Old School Eats and a graduate of the Catapult Fund, a multi-course grant program that encourages small cultural businesses to reach their potential. Capital One is one of five sponsors of the fund, designed to catapult businesses in the creative industries to the next level.

         "The festival will enable Jeff and Karen to offer great food and showcase their culinary talents to tens of thousands of people expected to attend the festival, and it presents the chefs' restaurants the opportunity to earn additional revenue," said Mark Boucree, head of Community Development Banking small business efforts for Capital One Bank in Louisiana and Texas.

         FCF is set to take place on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 11:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. and Sunday, Sept. 24, from 11:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., at Woldenberg Park, the site of Super Bowl Blvd, Lundi Gras, French Quarter Festival and other major events.

         Heard Dat Kitchen, 2520 Felicity St., is a neighborhood restaurant specializing in Creole-style cuisine. The restaurant embodies the iconic food culture of New Orleans with Heard's unique twists on classic soul food dishes like the crowd-favorite fried chicken po-boy.

         Old School Eats, the city's only food truck made from a converted school bus, encompasses both local and international "Old School" favorites. For this year's Fried Chicken Festival, husband and wife team Chef Chris and Karen Case will feature two chicken items: Louisiana chicken beignets and the tropical-themed Fried Birds of Paradise.
