BATON ROUGE (AP) — Republican Attorney General Buddy Caldwell has picked up the backing of a group of Democratic state lawmakers for his re-election bid.
The Louisiana Legislative Black Caucus announced Wednesday its endorsement of Caldwell in the Nov. 21 runoff against Republican challenger Jeff Landry. Nearly all members of the caucus are Democrats.
In a statement, Rep. Katrina Jackson, chair of the organization, described Caldwell as a candidate with experience, credibility and integrity. The caucus says its political action committee will work to help Caldwell in his runoff campaign.
Caldwell has been attorney general for eight years. Before that he was a district attorney in northeast Louisiana for nearly three decades.
Landry, a former congressman, received support earlier this week from the Democratic third-place finisher in last month's primary, Geri Broussard Baloney.
