C.J. Christ, Jeanerette Museum To Host "WWII In The Gulf Of Mexico" History Talk

JEANERETTE, LA – The Jeanerette Museum is hosting a history talk by C. J. Christ, military historian and author of "World War II in the Gulf of Mexico: Documenting a War Close to Our Shores."

Christ, a tireless researcher and acknowledged authority on German U-boats, will lead a talk on his research at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 23, 2015, at the museum located at 500 E. Main St. in Jeanerette.

Christ has published hundreds of articles and regularly lectures on military issues as he has over the past 30 years. He will discuss his years of research as he searched for the German submarine U-166 in the Gulf of Mexico.

Christ began his search for U-boat 166 in 1967 after hearing stories about a sunken German vessel just offshore in shallow water. After numerous diving expeditions, interviews with witnesses and research of official records, he was able to correct the record on who sunk the submarine. Christ was recently recognized by the Secretary of the Navy and the former Chief of Naval Operations for this achievement.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Christ served a tour flying B-29s over North Korea before earning an English degree from McNeese State University. He founded Houma Aviation and is the President of the Regional Military Museum in Houma, LA.

Christ has been featured in several documentaries, including WWL-TV (New Orleans), WVUE-TV (New Orleans), WCBS-TV (Dallas), the History Channel, NOVA, and ZDF Public Television in Munich, Germany.
