MANDEVILLE, LA – Mandeville City Councilwoman Carla Buchholz said she hopes her colleagues will vote down an ordinance to more tightly regulate special events on the city's historic lakefront, and will address local concerns through modifications to existing ordianances.
This Thursday, the Council will consider an ordinance brought by Councilman Rick Danielson (R, At-Large), to restrict events on the lakefront to specific areas.
Last month, Danielson deferred the ordinance pending a review by the city's Special Events Committee and Parks and Parkways Commission. Both bodies have responded that the concerns addressed by the ordinance can be handled by their processes, with minor changes to the laws that created them.
"I believe this ordinance is very well intentioned and it has led to important discussions the city needed to have," Buchholz said. "After the procedural reviews by Special Events and Parks and Parkways, I'm inclined to agree that a better solution would be to enhance existing processes."
Buchholz will not be present on Thursday.
