NEW ORLEANS — Chef Edgar Caro and Antonio Mata have opened the Brasa South American Steakhouse in the Canal Place shopping center.
Drawing inspiration from the asado culture of Colombia, Brazil and Argentina, the restaurant focuses on barbecued meats and seafood. The menu features many dishes found at the original Brasa location on Metairie Road.
“It has been a dream of mine to bring this style of food to downtown New Orleans,” said Caro in a press release. “Antonio and I are excited to share South America’s rich culture and flavors with locals and visitors and we look forward to being a part of the revitalization at the foot of Canal.”
The second-floor space, once occupied by Morton’s steakhouse, was completely remodeled. It includes raised tropical gardens by Luna Botanicals along with rattan and wicker furnishings. A large, glassed Himalayan salt room displays the dry-aged meats featured on the menu.
Hernan Caro, a local sculptor and Chef Caro’s uncle, crafted unique pieces for the space. The interior designer for the project was Cicada.
Caro and Mata also own Zocalo on Metairie Road and Basin Seafood on Magazine Street. Caro owns Baru on Magazine Street.
Brasa is open for lunch and dinner seven days a week.
