This past Saturday evening, Biz New Orleans was presented with the two-year-old publication's first national awards for its editorial content and e-newsletter at the Alliance of Area Business Publishers' (AABP) annual Excellence in Journalism awards, held this year in Dallas, Texas.
Biz New Orleans took home the silver for "Best Recurring Feature" for the magazine's "Why Didn't I Think of That?" monthly features highlighting creative business ideas in Southeast Louisiana, as well as a bronze award for "Best Daily Email" for its daily, afternoon newsletter.
This year the competition included 483 entries from 43 publications in the U.S., Canada and Australia.
Judges praised the "Why Didn't I Think of That?" features for their ability to "breathe life into the dynamic business world of Southeast Louisiana by focusing on the people behind interesting ventures. In the process, they introduce readers to some truly exciting innovators."
Biz's daily email was honored for its "variety of multimedia content with multiple entry points to the website," adding that, "the invitation from editors to readers to submit their own news offers a unique call to action."
Errol Laborde, the editor in chief for Renaissance Publishing, Biz's parent company, said, "it is amazing what Biz had accomplished in less than three years and we can expect many more accolades in the future. We are very proud of the Biz staff."
