NEW ORLEANS – On Tuesday, September 22, 2015, Kyle Graham, the Executive Director of the Coastal Protection and Restoration Authority, addressed a BGR Breakfast Briefing sponsored by IBERIABANK.
IBERIABANK's sponsorship of the Breakfast Briefings enables BGR to offer these events free to the public.
Graham discussed the scope of the land loss faced by coastal Louisiana, as well as the state’s limitations in addressing the problem.
“We can’t put back everything that was lost, and we can’t protect everything that we have,” he said.
Though funding a 100-year level of risk reduction from storms is unrealistic, Graham said Louisiana can reduce risk in every parish, according to unique regional needs.
In the short clip below, Graham uses dredging costs to illustrate the significant funding shortfall the state faces in meeting the goals outlined in the 2012 Coastal Master Plan.
