Barge Manufacturing Plant In Brusly Rescinds Planned Layoffs

BRUSLY, LA (AP) — A barge manufacturing company that had notified the Louisiana Workforce Commission in August that it planned to permanently close its plant in the fall and lay off nearly 300 workers has rescinded the notification.

         WAFB-TV reports, Trinity Marine Products, Inc. in Brusly said it has obtained a contract that will allow the facility to remain open. According to a news release, all 282 employees were expected to be retained.

         The company had scheduled to begin closing the facility on Oct. 23 and hoped to have everything shut down by Nov. 30.

         According to the company's website, Trinity Marine makes dry cargo barges, which are used to transport various products such as grain and coal and tank barges, which carry liquid cargoes.
