NEW ORLEANS – Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer welcomed Taylor Norton to the firm.
Norton is a registered patent attorney through the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, who advises and assists clients on various intellectual property matters, including patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, branding, entertainment and publicity rights.
Norton is a native of New Orleans and a Jesuit High School graduate who earned his Bachelors of Science in Pure Mathematics from Louisiana State University and his Masters of Science in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University, where he served as a National Science Foundation IGERT Research Fellow, advancing research across disciplines including structures and mechanics, textile engineering, macromolecular engineering and polymer science. He was a LaNasa Providence Law Scholar at Loyola University School of Law, where he received his Juris Doctor degree with a Certificate in Civil Law and Common Law.
Law firm reps said Norton is particularly skilled in the intellectual property practice area, advising and assisting clients with all forms of intellectual property. His practice is focused on serving the needs of clients ranging from emerging businesses and individuals to Fortune 500 companies, addressing patents, trademarks, trade secrets, copyrights, branding, entertainment and publicity rights. He strategically counsels and represents clients in commercial and intellectual property transactions, as well as in enforcement in litigation.
Norton is a registered patent attorney and an engineer, whose patent practice encompasses a wide range of technologies, including computer science, electrical and mechanical engineering, oil and gas, civil construction, mobile applications and business methods. Norton also has extensive experience in providing legal guidance in relation to research and development (R&D) tax credits and qualified research expenditures (QREs) for vessel design and construction in the marine industry.
Firm reps said Norton’s comprehensive trademark practice helps clients to build, protect and monetize their key images, names, brands, products and business lines. He facilitates the registration of trademarks with the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and he often advises clients on the licensing and enforcement of trademark rights. Norton represents clients in trademark opposition and cancellation proceedings before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board (TTAB).
His practice in intellectual property involves handling commercial transactions as well as facilitating branding and negotiating endorsements and agreements for athletic and creative talent in the sports and entertainment industries.
Norton also provides strategic counsel to clients on the formation of business entities, including limited liability companies and special-purpose-entities. Norton is also a co-author of the legal and business guidebook, “Louisiana Limited Liability Company: Forms and Practice Manual”, published by Data Trace Publishing Company.
In his free time, he enjoys spending time with his wife and four children and volunteering as a coach of his kids’ many soccer, baseball and flag football teams.

Rigterink's practice concentrates on transactional matters, with an emphasis on business and estate planning. Prior to joining the firm, she clerked for the Office of Chief Counsel for the IRS in Washington, D.C. She also served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jacques L. Wiener, Jr., Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and to the Honorable Yvette Kane, District Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Rigterink was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, but considers herself a New Orleans “native by choice.” She received a bachelor’s degree in English Literature from the University of Oxford, and also served as the Editor-in-Chief of the Oxford Student. After a stint in Austin, Texas, Rigterink moved to New Orleans to attend Tulane University Law School, where she was a member of the Tulane Law Review. She spent her second summer clerking for the Office of Chief Counsel for the IRS in Washington, D.C. Upon graduating summa cum laude in 2012, Rigterink received the Conrad Meyer III Award for academic leadership, the Robert Friedman award for academic writing, and was designated a member of the Order of the Coif.
Rigterink joined Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer in 2015. Her practice is focused on transactional matters, with an emphasis on business and estate planning. She helps clients achieve their objectives in a tax-efficient manner. Prior to joining the firm, Rigterink served as a law clerk to the Honorable Jacques L. Wiener, Jr., Circuit Judge for the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit, and to the Honorable Yvette Kane, District Judge for the Middle District of Pennsylvania.
Outside of work, Rigterink enjoys gardening, chasing down her dog, Buster, and dancing with the NOLA Cherry Bombs, an all-women dancing and parading troupe founded in 2011.
Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer’s Brian Johnson was nominated to the 2015 Bryan Bell Metropolitan Leadership Forum, a program run by the Committee for a Better New Orleans.
Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer’s Matt Miller was selected to the Leadership Jefferson Class of 2016, a nine-month program designed to develop a diverse network of dedicated business and community leaders.
Miller also became a board certified tax law specialist, as certified by the Louisiana Board of Legal Specialization.
Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer’s Scott Sternberg was selected to Gambit's "40 Under 40" list, which recognizes "under-age-40 achievers doing exceptional things."
Sternberg was also awarded the 2015 Stephen T. Victory Memorial Award for his Journal article, "Contrasting Professional Conduct Rule 4.2 with the First Amendment Right to Petition", featured in the Louisiana Bar Journal.
Baldwin Haspel Burke & Mayer’s Larry Mobley was elected as treasurer of the Travelers Aid Society of Greater New Orleans.
