Audubon Charter School Elects New Chairman Of The Board

NEW ORLEANS – Derek D. Bardell, a professor at Delgado Community College, was unanimously elected Chairman of the French and Montessori Education (FAME) Incorporated Board of Directors. The FAME Board governs the “A” rated Audubon Charter School (K-8) and oversees its $7.5 million budget. Bardell was elected at the Board Meeting on December 12, 2015.

         Bardell is a veteran educator who currently serves as an Adjunct Professor of Business Administration and Teaching and Learning at Delgado Community College. Bardell holds a bachelor’s degree from Dillard University and two master’s degrees from Tulane University. He is certified by the Louisiana Department of Education as an Educational Administrator and Supervisor of Instruction.

         “We are thrilled to have a Board Chairman with Mr. Bardell’s impressive educational background,” said Audubon Charter School CEO/ Principal Latoye Brown. “Mr. Bardell will make an ideal Chair who is proficient and knowledgeable of the inner workings of a school and the education system.”

         Bardell has received numerous awards from organizations such as the National Foundation for Teaching Entrepreneurship, the Children’s Defense Fund, the Delgado Community College Chancellor’s Office, the Louisiana Governor’s Office, and the League for Innovation in the Community College. He is also the recipient of the prestigious Higher One Financial Literacy Grant. Bardell  serves as Chairman of the Delgado Community College Care and Development of Young Children Board of Advisors.

         Professor Bardell succeeds the Rev. Cornelius Tilton.

         The Audubon Charter School is an “A” ranked school with a dual French/ Montessori program for grades K-8. Audubon is an Associate Member of the American Montessori Society, accredited by the French Ministry of Education and member of AEFE (Agency for French Teaching in America). The academically gifted program continues to grow each year and Audubon has expanded its Chinese Mandarin programs and French as a second language program. The Academic Games and Debate teams have won national and state competitions and Audubon has award-winning chess, robotics, and Metro League sports.
