SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — An internal audit says the Caddo Parish Animal Shelter needs a "complete culture change" and "urgent attention" to problems found by auditors.
The Times reports those include errors in marking animals for euthanasia or for placement to rescue groups.
Shelter managers say they've dealt with four of the audit's 11 recommendations.
Interim director Kelvin Samuel says steps taken so far include installation of 28 high-definition cameras to let managers better monitor the shelter.
He says the audit was conducted so the shelter could find out what it needed to improve.
The audit says the shelter should require continuing education and training for all staffers about sanitation, compassion fatigue and sheltering procedures.
