NEW ORLEANS –AT&T announced the Urban League of Greater New Orleans Building, Mid-City Market and 643 Magazine St. are the first three properties in the Crescent City to receive AT&T’s Fiber Ready designation.
AT&T reps said the tenants of these buildings now have access to AT&T’s fiber-based high-speed services and an improved ability to connect with the world.
“AT&T has invested more than $1 billion in its Louisiana wired and wireless networks during 2013-2015, and we are proud to highlight these three buildings as even more areas in Louisiana where AT&T’s fiber infrastructure is in place and ready to help community leaders drive job creation,” said Sonia Perez, State President of AT&T Louisiana. “Positive, pro-business policies embraced by elected officials continue to make our state a great place to invest, and I’m proud of the work our AT&T Louisiana employees have done deploying fiber and other infrastructure that delivers high-speed Internet access. Their hard work and skills, combined with millions of dollars in AT&T investment, enable Louisianans to connect and innovate.”
Beginning this year, AT&T reps said the company is set to expand the availability of Internet speeds up to 1Gbps to homes, apartments and small business in parts of Louisiana and 34 additional cities in the U.S. The AT&T GigaPower network will help encourage economic development in Louisiana by facilitating a new wave of innovation through enhanced opportunities for education, health, research and small business growth, reps said
“There is a spirit of growth and restoration here in New Orleans, and we are honored to be a part of it by having our building as one of the first in New Orleans to be AT&T Fiber Ready certified,” said Erika McConduit-Diggs, President and CEO of the Urban League of Greater New Orleans. “With this designation, our economic development leaders can more effectively position New Orleans for site selection by emphasizing the availability of high-speed, fiber-based services.”
The Urban League Building is located on S. Carrollton Avenue, Mid-City Market serves as retail and restaurant center and 643 Magazine St. is a four-story office building located on the corner of Magazine Street and Girod Street and includes tenants such as the Idea Village, Silicon Bayou News and various start-ups.
“AT&T’s continuing fiber network expansion ensures the expansion of good jobs for CWA workers in the telecommunications industry, particularly among frontline workers who build, maintain, and service the networks,” stated Stephen Edler, president of Communications Workers of America, Local 3410.
