NEW ORLEANS – The Urban League of Louisiana, Women's Business Resource Center announced Amber Peebles, president and CEO of Athena Construction, will be the keynote speaker at the Women-In-Construction Convening (WICC): The Art and Science of Collaboration, Thursday, July 20, at the New Orleans Jazz Market, 1436 Oretha Castle Haley Blvd.
During the event luncheon, Peebles will share her growth story and how collaboration with others has helped in scaling her business. She will also provide insight into how women in construction can leverage their collective power for the greater good through policy and advocacy engagement.
Athena Construction Group, Inc. is the nation's premier service-disabled veteran, woman-owned, and HUBZone construction company, reps said. Peebles is a veteran of the United States Marine Corps and oversees all aspects of the company's affairs and operations, while creating and implementing company's growth plans. A strategic visionary, Peebles has helped Athena grow to become one of the most in-demand construction companies in both the public and private sectors, reps said.
Peebles graduated from Park University with a B.S. in Human Resource Management, holds a Masters certification in Paralegal Studies from The George Washington University and a Project Management certification from Villanova University. She garnered much of her construction experience at Blank Rome LLP, where she was responsible for human resources, security, facilities management, capital improvement projects, and the day-to-day operation of a 200-person office.
She served four terms as chair of the Construction and Utilities Business Council for the Prince William Chamber of Commerce, was appointed to the Department of Veterans Affairs Education Advisory Commission, chair emeritus of the Marine Executive Association, and is on the Board of Directors of WIPP – Women Impacting Public Policy. She is also a 2010 graduate of the FBI Citizens Academy.
Peebles’ and Athena’s awards include: 2012 American Express Small Business Contractor of the Year, Virginia's SBA Veteran Business Advocate of the Year, Emerging General Contractor of the Year and 2015 SmartCEO's Cornerstone Award for community impact.
The Urban League of Louisiana's Women-In-Construction Convening (WICC): The Art and Science of Collaboration tales place from 8:30 a.m. -4:30 p.m. and will be followed by the Women-In-Networking' (WIN) Happy Hour from 4:30 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
