AOS to Host Virtual Discussion on Resiliency in Higher Education

NEW ORLEANS – AOS Interior Environments, local design assist firm, will host a free virtual panel on resiliency in higher education from 11 a.m. to noon on Friday, Aug. 21. Leadership from the University of New Orleans, Louisiana State University, Dillard University, Fletcher Technical Community College and Waggoner & Ball Architects will come together to discuss short and long term strategies for designing safe learning environments amidst a global health crisis.

The panel will consist of Dr. John Nicklow, president of the University of New Orleans; Dr. Kristine Stickland, chancellor of Fletcher Technical Community College; Gregory LaCour, director of campus planning for Louisiana State University; Ralph Johnson, vice president for business and finance for Dillard University; and David Waggoner III, FAIA, principal of Waggoner & Ball Architects.

“The pandemic has had an undeniable impact on educational institutions,” said Rebecca Cooley, vice president of modular interior construction and moderator for the series. “As the semester begins, faculty, staff, students and parents are all facing remote learning, new policies and adjusted start dates. Creative solutions for student engagement and development have become more important than ever in shaping the minds of our future, including adjustments to physical learning environments. I look forward to digging into those challenges and discussing the actions our institutions are taking with this esteemed group of community leaders.”

This is the fourth installment in a series of events focused on resiliency across the greater New Orleans region.

“Recent events have shed light on the fact that spaces should be resilient all the time, not just when responding to a crisis,” said Shelby Russ, AOS president and CEO. “This series is a way to foster that conversation and encourage collaboration across our community.”

All of these events are free and open to the public. Architects who attend can obtain continuing education unit credit by self-reporting to the AIA. Instructions will be sent via email following the event.
