Angola Prison Donates To Food Bank

BATON ROUGE (AP) — More than 1,500 sacks of fresh mustard and collard greens have been donated to a Baton Rouge Food Bank.

Angola Prison Warden Burl Cain says the large shipment of perishable greens was delivered Tuesday. Angola representatives tell WAFB-TV’s Matthew Fryou that the "staff and offenders are fortunate to have the opportunity to be good neighbors" to Louisiana.

KATC-TV reports more than five (m) million pounds of vegetables are grown on the prison's grounds to feed more than 11,000 state offenders housed at the Louisiana State Penitentiary, Dixon Correctional Institute, Avoyelles Correctional Center, Elayn Hunt Correctional Center and the Louisiana Correctional Institute for Women each year.
