Amerigroup To Host Back To School Celebration And Backpack Giveaway

NEW ORLEANS – Amerigroup Louisiana will host a Back to School Celebration and backpack giveaway on Saturday, July 23, 2016, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at the Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, 2200 Lafitte St.  Students aged 4-18 and their parents/ guardians are invited to a fun day of fitness, music, games, refreshments, health screenings and more. While supplies last, students will also receive free backpacks and school supplies to make sure children are “Day One Ready.”

         “It is important for our students to be excited and prepared to return to school,” said Peter Lambousy, Director of Marketing for Amerigroup Louisiana. “The Back to School Celebration connects the community to important resources that encourage health, nutrition and fitness to help children learn and thrive in the classroom.”

         In addition to the Amerigroup backpack giveaway, Second Harvest Food Bank will provide free healthy food for participating families as part of the Morgan Stanley Healthy Cities New Orleans initiative. SNAP application assistance and referral assistance for neighborhood food pantries and youth programs that serve as open summer feeding sites for children will also be provided.

         There is no cost to participate. 

         Students must be accompanied by a parent/ guardian to receive the free backpack and school supplies, while supplies last.

         The Back to School Celebration is possible with support from Amerigroup Louisiana in partnership with Providence Community Housing, Healthy Start Best Babies Zone, Second Harvest Food Bank and Morgan Stanley.
