ABOUT
Every 33 seconds, a person dies from cardiovascular disease in America. Heart disease is the primary killer in this country. For the American Heart Association, that fact compels them every day to generate community change throughout the region, aiming to reduce those numbers and improve cardiovascular health for everyone. The AHA builds collective action driven to improve quality of life, opportunity and options for care. Whether tackling the problem through funding medical research or delving deep into the social determinants of health, they are constantly moving towards a future of a local community grounded in well-being.
EVENTS
Brisk walking for as few as 30 minutes a day has proven health benefits, from increasing energy and promoting better circulation to reducing the overall risk of heart disease. On November 14, the organization is hosting the non-competitive New Orleans Heart Walk—a 1.8 mile walk/run dedicated to raising funds to support research for heart disease and strokes as well as educational programs around Greater New Orleans. They invite you to join them in Champions Square to both raise funds and raise heartbeats. To sign up for the Heart Walk, please visit NewOrleansHeartWalk.org.
