NEW ORLEANS (AP) — New Orleans' Algiers Point-Canal Street ferry has been shut down for mechanical issues.
The New Orleans Advocate reports Monday's closure prompted the Regional Transit Authority to put emergency bus service in place to shuttle people to and from the city's West Bank.
It's unclear when the ferry will return to normal service.
The buses will run between the ferry's Canal Street and Algiers terminals, making no stops on the way, and will cost $2 per person each way — the same amount as the ferry.
An RTA news release notes monthly ferry passes will be accepted on the temporary bus service, but regular bus and streetcar Jazzy Passes will not.
The bus service will end at 10 p.m., the same time the ferry service was scheduled to end.
