Alexandria Port In Transition To New Model

ALEXANDRIA, LA (AP) — The new board of the Central Louisiana Regional Port is starting to take shape.

The former Alexandria Regional Port had its name changed and its territorial limits expanded by recent action of the state Legislature.

The Town Talk’s Jeff Matthews reports the parish now controls three seats on the board, instead of one. Those spots were filled and two new board members sworn in during the Rapides Parish Police Jury's meeting Monday.

The police jury retained current board member Basil Smith. The jury appointed Lecompte farmer David Harvey and longtime school administrator Jesse Doyle.

Port Executive Director Blake Cooper said he is waiting to be notified about a few remaining seats on the 10-member board.
