NEW ORLEANS – Advanced Polymer Monitoring Technologies (APMT) hosted a private event for stakeholders, customers, partners, investors and employees on Friday, September 16, 2016. The event, which was held at Woodward Design + Build and APMT’s facilities on S. Gayoso St., attracted more than 80 attendees from New Orleans, Chicago and parts of California. Among those in attendance included leadership from Tulane University, Woodward Design + Build, New Orleans City Council, Idea Village and the New Orleans BioInnovation Center.
The evening included presentations from APMT’s co-founder and Chairman, Dr. Bill Bottoms, co-founder and CSO Prof. Wayne Reed, and co-founder and CEO, Alex Reed covering overviews on APMT’s science and technology foundation, business progress to date and vision for the future. Following the executive presentations, APMT engineers showcased demonstrations of the company’s hardware and software products to guests as they visited the APMT facility, several blocks from Woodward’s headquarters.
Throughout the evening the company’s executives emphasized that APMT is deeply rooted in New Orleans. The company was established in 2012 as a spin-out of Tulane University’s Center for Polymer Reaction Monitoring and Characterization (PolyRMC). Alex Reed is a New Orleans native and attended Newman High School and Tulane University. Prof. Reed is a physics professor at Tulane University, and Dr. Bottoms is an Emeritus Member of the Board of Tulane University and received his Ph.D. in physics from the University.
The history of APMT dates back to 1985 when Prof. Reed began exploring the world of polymers through research and development. In 2007 Tulane University created PolyRMC to serves as the world’s premier center for R&D in polymerization reaction monitoring. It was during this time that Prof. Reed began developing the products and technologies that today serve as the foundation for APMT.
The mission of APMT is to play an enabling role in the polymeric materials industry of the 21st century by developing new technology for monitoring and control of polymer reactions to reduce cost, improve quality and reduce the environmental footprint of the $1 Trillion polymer and $160 Billion biopharmaceutical industries.
APMT is the only company on the market that has been able to directly monitor the most critical and desirable polymer properties in real-time during production. ACOMP technology utilizes absolute measurements and is not dependent on empirical or inferential models, greatly differentiating it from technologies in use. APMT has exclusive license to 10 issued patents and 25 patent applications owned by Tulane University, co-owned between Tulane and APMT, or owned directly by APMT. Currently, APMT’s core team consists of 18 employees and founders, and since 2013 the company has had 177 total contributors to its growth which includes 39 interns (34 from Louisiana institutions) and a number of consultants, advisors, partners and collaborators.
